What about security? Top
Dialog Select is available at two URLs, including a "secure server" address: If you are using the secure server (the "https" URL), you do not need to worry about security. This server invokes the SSL ("secure socket layer") protocol. The SSL protocol is the current standard for Internet security, however, depending on how your site is configured, your in-house setup may not support SSL. If this is the case, and you are concerned about security, you may want to contact your Systems or MIS department.

Please be aware that the "http" or "unsecured" URL does not offer a secure Internet connection. While we take as much care as possible to ensure that our data transmissions are secure and confidential, we cannot guarantee security over the Internet other than through the use of a security protocol, such as SSL.

Should I always logoff? Top
To protect your password from being used if you leave your workstation, you should always logoff. Simply click the Logoff button. You will see the estimated costs for the current session and confirmation that you are logged off.

If you do not logoff, your session will automatically time out after 20 minutes of no activity.

Can I interrupt a search that's in process? Top
If a search is taking a long time to process, you can interrupt it using the Stop feature in your browser software.

You should then check your strategy for search words that might be finding more records than you want. See the tips in How To...Improve Your Search.

Why am I sometimes prompted to logon again? Top

For security reasons, you are prompted for your user ID and password after 20 minutes of no activity. If you are being prompted more often than this, check your browser settings.

For Netscape Navigator™:

  1. Open the Edit menu and select Preferences.
  2. Click the tab for Advanced-Cache.
  3. Make sure that the Document in Cache option is set to Once per session.

For Microsoft® Internet Explorer:

  1. Open the View menu and select Options.
  2. Click the tab for Advanced and then click the button for Settings.
  3. Make sure that the option for Every Time You Start is selected.

Where can I get help with my browser software? Top
