Search Tips
Choose Your Options
Use only the search options that you need--leave the others blank.
Words in Title
Enter words that appear in the title. For different word endings, use the ? wildcard, for example: NAME? Combine words to get specific information. Example: NAME? AND GAME?
Exact Title
Enter the words that must be the exact copyright title. Example: THE NAME GAME.
Owner
Owners include names of the current owner, as well as the assignor (party of the first part) and assignee (party of the second part). Enter the owner's name, leaving out words like Corp., Inc., etc. Example: MOTOWN MUSIC. If the owner is an individual, enter the last name, a comma, and the first name; use a wildcard to get variations on the name. Example: KING, CAROLE?
Author
Enter the last name followed by a comma and the first name. Use the ? wildcard after the first name to get middle initials. Example: CROSBY, DAVID? (To search by the person or company that owns the copyright, use Owner.)
Class
You can restrict the search to specific classes of copyrighted works such as sound recordings, motion pictures, etc.
Legal Status
Searches are automatically restricted to registered copyrights--you can choose to restrict the search further to renewed or reassigned copyrights only.
Registration Year
Leave this blank unless you need to focus the search by year. For fastest processing, use the smallest year range you need.
