The Books in Print database, produced by the R. R. Bowker Company (a Reed Reference Publishing company, a division of Reed Elsevier Inc.), is the most comprehensive source of information on books published in the U.S. The database contains bibliographic records from over 44,000 publishers. These records cover books currently in print and titles about-to-be-published as far as six months in advance, as well as information on titles declared out-of-print or out-of-stock indefinitely since 1979. Reviews from Publishers Weekly, Library Journal, and School Library Journal are included since the mid-1980's.

Books in Print includes all the information in the most current printed editions of the following publications: Books in Print, Books Out of Print™, Subject Guide to Books in Print™, Books in Print Supplement®, Forthcoming Books™, Books in Series™, Children's Books in Print®, Subject Guide to Children's Books in Print™, Paperbound Books in Print®.

Information in Books In Print is received directly from book publishers, with additional information provided by Library of Congress Cataloging-in-Publication (CIP) data.
