Choose Your Options
Use only the search options that you need--leave the others blank.
Main Subject
Enter words that describe the subject of the patent. For different word endings, use the ? wildcard: SUPERCONDUCT? Combine words to get specific information. Example: SUPERCONDUCT? AND (INSULATION OR THERMAL SHOCK)
International Class
Enter an international class code just as it appears in a patent, with
all punctuation. For example, class code G08C-021/00.
Patent Assignee
Enter the name of the assigned owner. For example, SILICON GRAPHICS.
Do NOT include words like Corp., Inc., etc.
Inventor
Enter the last name and the first initial. Use a wildcard after the first initial for more complete search results. Example: MOORE T? (To search by the company that owns the patent, use Search by Patent Assignee.)
Patent or Application Number
Enter the 2-letter country code followed by a space and the number just as it appears in the patent or citation, with all punctuation. For example, patent number US 5,251,234 or application number EP 93200044.
To display a list of country codes, click Country Code List.
Note about U.S. application numbers: U.S. application numbers are reused every several years. To search by U.S. application number, if you know the application year, select the year from the Application Year drop-down list.
Priority Only (Application Number)
Check the Priority Only box to restrict application number searches to the priority application only.
Country Code
Enter the two-letter Country Code. For example, to search patents from the U.S. and Canada, enter US OR CA.
Record Type
Select the box if you want records containing images.
Patent or Application Year
Select the All Years or From option. Choose the All Years option for the fastest processing. If the From option is selected, select a starting year and an ending year from the drop-down lists.
